Nicky - Nicky Gonis Holistic Health
"I have a strong passion for helping people through education on diet and lifestyle changes."
Nicky and her family have a rich history with the Evanston Gardens area. Long ago her father Andreas bought the land that now houses the Orleana Waters development. The family legacy lives on there with street names such as, "Andreas Avenue" and, "Gonis Circuit" and they are still very much involved with the development of the land.
Born in Gawler at the Hutchinson Hospital Nicky is the youngest of four children. Her parents hailed from the northern parts of Cyprus. Originating in Gialousa, Farmagousta, Andreas came to Australia and worked on the trains and eventually went back to Cyprus to find a wife and it is here he met his Andrea. They came back and settled in Adelaide. Andrea came all by herself with no other family and didn't speak a word of English. Moving to Adelaide would provide them with a better place to raise a new family. Andreas bought a farm in Salisbury and started driving trains. By this time, they had 3 kids under 5. Andreas had great foresight and saw a great opportunity at Evanston Gardens and bought a farm on the corner of Coventry and Clark Road and farmed wheat, Barely, and olives. He knew that one day it would be prime for real estate development.
“Dad had a vision and has certainly left his mark on Gawler..." After being a train driver and driving the old, "Red Hens" on the Gawler line Andreas finally retired when Nicky was twelve. Working on the farm His wife Andreas was also busy working on the farm and raising all four children.
Nicky attended Evanston Gardens Primary School and then went on to Gawler High and after high school did study in Cert 4 beauty therapy at TAFE. Not feeling a passion for beauty therapy saw a newer bigger calling in naturopathy and Nicky felt a need to work in a pharmacy. "I really wanted to be a naturopath... it's been life-changing. It’s become my life's work."
Nicky started working and Harnett and George pharmacy for 6 months and then moved into managing the health food store, "Total Wellbeing" for 5 years before again moving into clinical work in Modbury and then full-time consulting in Gawler.
"I wanted to work 1 on 1 with people to give them the most individualised treatment and best outcomes using functional medicine." Having been a Naturopath now for 15 years she aims to educate people to heal their lives the natural way. A Passionate herbalist, she'll help transform your gut health and also treat autoimmune conditions with a special interest in post-partum support. She'll use several modalities to help balance the body, such as Herbal Medicine, Nutrition, Live Blood Screening and Australian Bush Flowers.
"I believe that any condition can benefit from Naturopathic Therapies. I understand that health concerns can arise from any aspect of your life, physical, mental/emotional and spiritual and I approach every patient with that in mind."
