Geoff New was a member of the Gawler Environment and Heritage Association and, as an amateur archeologist, unearthed relics buried around Gawler.
Geoff was elected as a Gawler Councillor for Church Hill Ward 1979 to 1983.
He was a foundation member of the Gawler Historical Society in 1980.
