Description: Benjamin Edward Deland arrived in South Australia aboard the "Warren Hastings". He was a builder, architect, miller and Mayor of Gawler, Hamley Bridge and Blyth. He was a member of the Congregational Church. Benjamin Deland owned a number of other properties in Gawler, including a brickyard and also the shop and residence that was rented to John Wilkinson. Benjamin Edward Deland was elected as Gawler Councillor for North Ward 1866 to 1867, and also 1869 to 1870. He was then elected Gawler Councillor for East Ward in 18778 and 1880 and then elected Councillor for South Ward in 1885. He was elected Mayor of Gawler from 1885 to 1886 and then elected as Councillor for North Ward in 1887 to 1888.
