Description: George Gozzard arrived in South Australia aboard the ship "Duchess of Northumberland" in 1839, with his second wife nee Charlotte Pell Battams and daughter by his first marriage Rosanna Gozzard.<ref name=":0" /> The family proceeded to Galwer in the 1840s.<ref name=":0" /> George took over the duties of Gawler Postmaster, following the death of [[Calton Henry|Henry Calton]] (who had run the service from his [[Old Spot Hotel 77 Murray Street|Old Spot Hotel)]].
