Carole Jeanne Mells (nee Holloway) was born 9th November 1940 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, during the Battle of Britain. My parents lived in Portchester Hampshire – a small village between Portsmouth and Southhampton.
My father was a builder and during the war, he was assigned to build ships for the Government and was a member of the ARP - which involved looking after homes and buildings that were bombed.
When I left school and commercial college, I worked for the Government in the office of the Royal Navy. I met Pat when I was 19 and we married when I was 20. We had two children – a boy and girl. We emigrated to South Australia in 1969 and lived in Fairview Park for about five years and then moved to Gawler. I worked in Adelaide in an accountant’s office for 9 years and then worked for the Project Office for the Adelaide Convention Centre, Casino, Hyatt Hotel. When these projects were completed, I carried on working for the Project Managers who had formed their own business.
Andrew and Petra (our son and daughter-in-law) bought Tanunda Home Building Supplies and I assisted them in the office. I have been retired for several years and I am a member of The Ladies Probus Club of Gawler and have been President and Secretary.
