It appears that David Moore was only the second member of the Rotary Club of Gawler to ever become a District Governor of Rotary [in 2003/4]. Roly Day was DG in 1982/83. ____________________________

David Moore (Wife: Marlene)

The eldest of three boys, David was born at Netherby, South Australia in 1935, and was educated at Highgate Primary School and Unley High School.

He and Marlene had three sons and seven grandchildren.

After leaving school he | joined Elder Smith & Co Limited as a junior. He left the Company as Seed and Grain Manager in 1962. He joined Wright Stephenson & Co (Australia) Pty Ltd and served in the capacity of Senior Manager, South Australia until he commenced his own export business, Australian Combined Exporters Pty Ltd in 1976. In 1982 he also formed his consultancy organisation, Applied Economic & Technology Services.

During this time David also served with the Royal Australian Infantry Corps where he became the youngest Warrant Officer in the Australian Army at the age of 19. He was commissioned as an officer at 21. David has undertaken studies involving the grain industry in both the United Kingdom and United States of America.

In 1986 he joined the Rotary Club of Gawler, District 9500 and served as President of the Club in 1989-90. He also served as Chairman, Central Region, Donations in Kind Committee and Vice Chairman, Central Region, Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd. He served as Governor's Assistant 2000-01 and Assistant Governor 2001 -02. In 1999 his club recognised David by naming him a Paul Harris fellow. David was a Justice of the Peace, served as a Councillor, Corporation of the Town of Gawler and was President of the Gawler Tourist Association. He was a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Associate of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Member of the Australia Grain Institute, Chief Executive Officer - National Agricultural Commodities Marketing Association Limited, Member - Plant Breeders Rights Advisory Committee, Member - Gene Technology Grains Committee and has held many other industry positions over the years.

David was District Governor of Rotary District 9500 in 2003-2004. The 2004 Rotary District Conference was held at Gawler’s Starplex and is widely recognised as one of the most successful Rotary Conferences held in South Australia.

David passed away in on 27th February 2010 after a brave battle with cancer.
