The region of Twentyfirst Street, Gawler South was known as Evanston during early settlement. In 1858 it was subdivided to form Bassett Town and the street was known as Elizabeth Street, likely in honour of landowner William Bassett's wife and eldest daughter who were both named Elizabeth. In the 1930's Bassett Town became part of Gawler South and the suburb's streets were renamed using a numbering system, Elizabeth street became Twentyfirst street.
Twentyfirst Street contains several buildings from the Town of Gawler Local and Contributory Heritage List, including the Bassett family cottage (13 Twentyfirst Street - the oldest house in the Bassett Town area), the site believed to be the former Ram’s Head Hotel (15 Twentyfirst Street) and those listed below.
