OSCAR JAMES MEGAW

Oscar Megaw was a well known Gawlerite. He worked as a mechanic from his premises at 76 Adelaide Road, Gawler South. In the 1930s he owned a mechanics shop at 114-116 Murray Street, Gawler. Oscar Magaw often played the Magician at conjurer at fundraising events in Gawler. He also worked as a stagehand and lighting coordinator at plays and musicals at the Gawler Institute.

The Bunyip newspaper in 1954 features an advertisement of Mr Megaw to pick up all his goods at 76 Adelaide Road, or they would be sold to cover the expense. Signed by D.F. Hood.

Oscars father, James, died at William Street on 29 July 1921, at the age of 62. James was a South Australian Railway Worker. William Street was once the name for Adelaide Road.
