First Gawler Rifles
The voluntary First Gawler Rifles (or Gawler First Rifles) existed as far back as 1859 and the Volunteer Mounted Rifles formed in 1890, although disbanded five years later when a new Act enforced volunteer forces to become militia, leading to the formation of the non-military Gawler Rifle Club in 1897.[1]
