According to research by Robert Haysom, the publicans were:

1859 - 1860 T. Henry;

1861 - 1866 Samuel Pope;

1866 J.E. Friend;

1867 W. Bassett;

1868 J. Heads;

1868 W.H.Popham;

1868 - 1873 J. Fennell.

it is said that during the Barossa Gold Rush in 1868, the Wheatsheaf Inn prospered, as it was on the way to the diggings.
