Welcome to the History of Gawler, historically referred to as 'The Colonial Athens' and 'The Best of Town and Country'. Explore historical information on the Town of Gawler, established in 1839;

Gawler is the oldest country town in the state of South Australia . Named after the second Governor of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. It is about 40 km north of the state capital, Adelaide, and is close to the major wine producing district of the Barossa Valley.
