The Bunyip

Mr. R. J. Hill who has conducted a tobacconist and hairdressing business in Gawler for the past 30 years has left Gawler and purchased a business at Port Pirie. Mr. Hill represented South Ward in the Municipal Council for a number-of years.

On Thursday evening of last week, a valedictory social was tendered to him by the members of the Prince Albert Lodge. The function, which was held in the Lodge-Room. was well attended by the members of the Lodge and friends. In proposing the health of 'Our Guest' Mr. S. Richardson stated that through the departure of Mr. Hill the town was losing one of its best citizens.

Mr. Hill had always been a great worker for anything which he thought would be of benefit to the town. As regards Lodge matters it would be difficult to replace him. He was one of the foundation members of the Lodge and it was largely owing to his efforts that the present Lodge was in such a good position to-day.

The Toast was supported by Messrs. R. H. Richards, A. Laycock, and others. Mr. H. Hay dock, on behalf of the Lodge, presented Mr. Hill with an illuminated address and a golden Acorn. In acknowledging the gift Mr. Hill referred to the many good times he had had in the Lodge-Room. He thanked them all for their good wishes, and said he deeply appreciated the kind words spoken regarding his work in connection with the town, and Lodge business. A lengthy musical programme was gone through and a pleasant evening terminated with the singing of 'Old Lang Syne.'1
