Description:
The Gawler Catholic Mission began with the appointment of two English Cistercian Monks β Frs Norbert and Wolfrey, by Bishop of Adelaide, Doctor Murphy β and they arrived in Gawler in August 1848 from Tasmania. These priests set about collecting funds for a church and people responded generously, and in April, 1850, the Bishop assisted by the Vicar General, Dr Bachans, laid the foundation stone of the first Sts Peter & Paulβs Church. The church was duly opened in 1855. ===== Good Samaritan Convent ===== The convent is closely linked to the Catholic church, [https://www.flickr.com/photos/gawler_history/albums/72157673916437040 click here] to view photographs.
