Description: Mik married Thelma May and they had 3 children; Michele (who married John R Chambers), Christine (who married Brenton Slate) and Michael. Mik was a "quietly" generous man with an unique personality. He was an intrepid Gawler businessman who ventured into Furniture sales, Menswear and he also owned a Deli; as well as many private homes around Gawler. He really knew what was a "bargain" and many of his purchases were stored in his home as they would "surely become useful and important in good time". He also had remarkable culinary skills; especially with Lebanese food. In 1995 St Georges Anglican Church had 3 windows on its south wall that needed a total renovation and Brian Thom (as the then Priest's Warden) asked Mik if he would pay for the creation of the western window of the 3 new ones being created by Art Glass. Mik didn't hesitate to pay for the window to be created and the plaque state that the window is in memory of his late wife Thelma and his 3 children. Mik Mattei had his home on Adelaide Road in Gawler and the house was demolished so that the KFC enterprise could be built there. He then shifted to 7 Lyndoch Road and he lived there until his passing. When you see the Video of Mik's life as related by Grandson Brad Slate you will learn of one episode where Mik shot through his front door screen to deter an intruder. A "must see" video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxGVMjNbcB8&t=449s [https://www.flickr.com/photos/gawler_history/sets/72157640440812533/ To see more photos of Michael Mattei click here] The fields below can each contain multiple values.
