Description:
The house at 6 Moore Street was built in 1878 and was owned and occupied by Mary Ann Turner, widow of Joseph Turner who was a draper in Gawler. The house and associated garden were substantial compared to most dwellings in Gawler in the 1800s. The house was situated in the western half of the land parcel known as βacre 101β. From 1902 Mary Turner also owned the eastern half of acre 101, on a separate land title, and this had contained two 1800s cottages that were far smaller in size than the house. Itβs not known when the cottages were removed, but the garden for the house now extends into both parcels of land, which are still on two separate land titles.
