Welcome to the History of Gawler, previously referred to as 'The Colonial Athens' and 'The Best of Town and Country'. Explore historical information on the Town of Gawler, established in 1839;

Gawler is the oldest country town in the South Australian mainland. Named after the second Governor of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. It is about 40–44 km north of the state capital, Adelaide, and is close to the major wine producing district of the Barossa Valley.

Robyn Heitman will be talking on the strange death of Mr Buchanan in 1839.

A young gentleman having arrived on the Immigrant ship Bardaster was involved in foul play or something else? . Robyn, a former St Paul’s Cathedral London guide and an award winning writer  of short family stories  will take us thru the history of it all,

a donation of $5 is appreciated to assist Hall hire

For those that may need some help starting their family tree/research etc. The National Trust Family History Support Group will be at the Civic Centre, Room G3, = On the last Friday of each month, from 10.30 - 12.00, starting on the 30th May 2025. $10.00 per person.
