Since the late 1800s this row of shops have had active trade, some of us remember one of the shops to be Congdon's deli (operated from 81 Murray Street from 9 Sep 1947 until 1976) and from around 2007 to 2012 the shops were used for hairdressing (eg. Belissimo Beauty & Nail Studio), state government candidate office and assorted food shops, including Pizza Haven & Noodle Smart. Demolition of these shops started August 2012 in preparation for the redevelopment being undertaken by the proprietors of the adjoining Old Spot Hotel (Golden Fleece). The big colourful May Brothers mural which was affixed to the northern wall of the entry to the rear carpark was preserved and securely placed in the National Trust Museum in Gawler.
