He and his brother, Robert inherited ‘Balmoral’ in 1960. Robert sold his share of the property to Walter.

Walter J Martin was Councillor of District Council of Barossa (Concordia Ward) circa 1975 – 1981. It is possible he was there earlier circa 1971 to 1981. Walter was Deputy Chairman between 1977 – 1981.

Gawler History Team thanks Jo Zander for this information.

According to Peter Nettelbeck, Walter ran the leading Poll Dorset stud in Australia. Walter was a Councillor within the Barossa Council, Chairman of the Gawler Show Society in 1961 and 1962 and was made a Life Member of Gawler Show Society in 1981. He was also Chairman of the Curdnatta Recreation Park. Walter married Betty Churchill- Smith and was a “nice bloke”.
