Thomas Stanley was elected Gawler Councillor for North Ward 1916 to 1919.

Tom married Dora Williams and they lived in the large homestead south of the Church of the Nazarene in Evanston. They owned the farmland that now houses the homes in Hewett down to the river, and beyond the by-pass to the Freeling Road turnoff.

Tom was a butcher, with his shop being where the menswear shop south to Terry White Chemist is at present.
