Mr. Quarton was born in England about 1875 in York, before leaving England to come to Australia he resided in Wandsworth, London.

His journey to Australia was via a sailing ship around the Cape of Good Hope, it was apparently quite adventurous.

He built his home in Blanch Street, Gawler East in 1918, with a cellar underneath the kitchen floor, which was a great source of delight to Norm and Beth Lavis who lived with Mr. Quarton for many years as children. His home is still the family home with Kath Peach residing in it to this day.

Mr. Quarton worked in the James Martin Foundry before forming a partnership with Mr. Wehr and Mr Starling – Quarton, Wehr and Starling, the GMH Dealership in Murray Street Gawler

Mr. Quarton was a member of the Gawler Council from 1934 - 1959
