Lionel attended the Gawler Primary School until at the age of 14, he left school to work for Harold Bunting, as a Painter.
Lionel's father, French, worked for Clarrie Ayling and in 1950 at 16 years old, Lionel was offered an apprenticeship as a Carpenter and Joiner. He completed his training with regular attendance at Night School, and then he and his father, started their own business as F Folland and Sons.
Together they established a successful building Business and over the time provided Apprenticeships to many employees - many of who then went on to establish their own businesses.
