Malcolm Lucas was born in the Gawler Hutchinson Hospital in 1943 and grew up on his parent's mixed farm at Kangaroo Flat. He has always loved the farming life and relates with humour many of his experiences as a young lad on the farm. He talks glowingly of his mother's skills and his father's resilience through their early tough years. Listen to his stories of cream cakes, feeding cows, cereal growing, hot destructive north winds, his German heritage, school days at Kangaroo Flat in a one-teacher school, shopping in Gawler, the transition from horses to tractors, vicious chooks, anti-German sentiment after WW2, and the typical daily activities on the farm.
