• October12, George Gawler arrived in South Australia as the second Governor of South Australia on October 12th, taking over from John Hindmarsh. His arrival aimed to resolve the colonial chaos, and he initiated public works including building roads, the Customs House, and a new Government House. He increased police numbers and official staff to address the colony's issues and the needs of new immigrants. George Gawler established a foundational relationship with the Kaurna people, giving a public speech translated by William Wyatt A settlement that would become the town of Gawler was founded named after the new governor.  He also brought in Charles Sturt to assist with surveying
