Old Identity Passes.
The Bunyip (16 Jun 1950) reported: "An old identity of Gawler, Mr. Edward Joseph May, of Thirteenth Street, Gawler West, passed away in hospital on Saturday morning at the age of 75 years. The late Mr. May was an engineer by trade and worked at May Bros. foundry until it closed in 1923.
He came to Gawler from Wallaroo Mines with his parents when only a lad and lived in Gawler from then on, with the exception of a 12-month period at Broken Hill. Greatly interested in band work, he was a member for many years of the Phoenix Brass Band, and as such took part in competitions at Ballarat. His wife, a sister of the Town Clerk (Mr. F.J. Richards) survives.
The remains were privately interred at Willaston Cemetery on Monday afternoon. Rev. F. W. Brasher officiating at the graveside."[2]
