Nineteenth Street Gawler South was originally known as Murray Street Bassett Town and can be seen on the original Plan for the Township of Bassett. It is particularly significant as it was part of the route of the Gawler Tramway, which lead from the Gawler Railway Station to the main street and ran from 1879 to 1931.[1]
Northern sections of Nineteenth Street also formed part of the May Brothers Foundry complex, including the pair of cottages at 15 & 17, which have become private residences. The Foundry as it stood, including the cottages is depicted in this line drawing.
Nineteenth Street has numerous other remaining heritage buildings, including the cottage at 1 Nineteenth Street, attached pair of villas at 9-11 Nineteenth Street, and the Criterion Tavern at 18 Nineteenth Street.
