The original courthouse was built in 1857 on the same property as the courthouse today. Between September 1857 and July 1858, it was used by the Town of Gawler Corporation as the council meeting venue. The old courthouse became the Police Sergeants residence after the new courthouse was built in 1881 by builder James Pike. The courthouse was refurbished in 1967 The courthouse was used as a backdrop in the 1987 mini-series The Shiralee, starring Bryan Brown and Noni Hazelhurst.


The Court House is now a Bed and Breakfast. [Research compiled by Allen Tiller].
