Seventeenth Street, Gawler South, was originally known as Cross Street, Gawler West. The street has one building that was listed as a Contributory Item on the Gawler Development Plan – <click here> for photographs of it. Thomas Eley bought the building from widow Sarah Sell in 1865 for 300 pounds and tried to make a go of it as a store until William Bassett bought it from Thomas and Ann Eley in April 1866. The cottage is now a private residence.
