Welcome to the History of Gawler, previously referred to as 'The Colonial Athens' and 'The Best of Town and Country'. Explore historical information on the Town of Gawler, established in 1839;

Gawler is the oldest country town on the South Australian mainland. Named after the second Governor of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. It is about 40 km north of the state capital, Adelaide, and is close to the major wine producing district of the Barossa Valley.

Rob Chamberlain will be talking on the South Australian construction and civil engineering company, LR&MConstructions, established in Gawler in 1966 involved in construction projects all over South Australia including part of the Northern Connector freeway, and lots to do with Gawler's Development

For those that may need some help starting their family tree/research etc. The National Trust Family History Support Group will be at the Civic Centre, Room G3, = On the last Friday of each month, from 10.30 - 12.00, starting on the 30th May 2025. $10.00 per person.
