Type of person Individual

Charles Sumsion (and son) lived in a house on Edith Street in acre 431. The house was built sometime between 1876 and 1878, on land already owned by Charles Sumsion. Sometime between 1880 and 1883, Charles began renting a shop on Lyndoch Road, on the corner with High Street (the shop was situated in acre 195, almost opposite the residence of R. St. Mark Dawes in acre 248). From 1887, the property is referred to as a workshop rather than a shop. Charles stopped renting the workshop in 1890/91, and had left the house on Edith Street by 1892/03.

I walked Edith street earlier today and could see that ‘Acre 431’ refers to the block of land that is now ‘1 Edith Street’. This is confirmed by the layout shown in Google Maps (see page 3 of the PDF).
