Unfortunately a large number of the stone walls, that are still in existence, are in a very poor state of repair. The cost of repairing them correctly is often beyond the means of the property owners. The development of Phoenix Plaza, did however result in the extensive repair of the stone wall on the northern side of the property on Calton Road.

The wall at 25 High Street has been in this condition for many years while a lengthy discussion about ownership/resonsibilty between the property owner and the local council appears unresolved
