Hewett is a suburb North of Gawler and east of Willaston. It includes Mckinlay Estate, Mckinlay Ridge and Harkness Heights housing estates.

The suburb consists of a R-7 Public Primary School, as well as the 'Hewett Shopping Centre'. Hewett is a part of the Light Regional Council.

Hewett and is named after Laurie Harkness; a local resident who played a key role in the development of the spectacular hybrid bottlebrush that bears his name.

Light Regional Council commenced work on McKinlay Estate in April 2001. The estate is named after Scottish born explorer, <John McKinlay>.
