Gained apprenticeship in smelting works at Ludgvan, Cornwall.

Became qualified Engineer, Surveyor

Arrived in SA 19.1.1855 in vessel “Marion” from Plymouth

Built home 'Shirley Hall' [1] (later known as 'Chelsea') at Salisbury (now Heritage listed)

Appointed Assistant Engineer for the Adelaide/Gawler Town railway

In Apr 1861 he won the tender to survey several roads closed by the railway in the Munno Para District Council Area.

'William Green Coulls, C.E.' (Civil Engineer) died at his residence in Salisbury on 22 Dec 1861, aged 48 years. It is possible the original name 'Coulls Street', for part of Twentythird Street Gawler South, was named in honour of him.
