Sydney Lance Dawkins was a farmer based in Gawler River.

Death of Lance Dawkins.
Long time Australian pig industry identity, Lance Dawkins of Gawler River, died last Thursday aged 86 year. Throughout his life Lance made the name “Para Wirra” well known and widely respected by the Large White stud pig and commercial pig industry. Royal Show awards and championships, and Carcase Competition trophies were regular occurrence for Lance Dawkins.
Beyond the farm, Lance played a significant leadership role in the commercial pig industry, including the SA Baconer and Porker Carcase Competition. For more than 20 years he also served on the cattle and wine committee of the RA&HS of SA.
Lance was always proud of his having been invited to judge pig entries on at least two occasions at every Royal Australia in Australia. For his extensive service and contributions to the industry over some 30 years, Lance was recognised with honorary life membership of the Australian Pig Breeders’ Society in 1980. In 1986 he received the additional award of Medal of the Order of Australia.
During WWII Lance saw extensive active service with the 2/14 Field Regiment in Darwin and in New Guinea and New Britain. Lance is survived by his wife, Kath, and their two daughters and their families.
