Joseph's father, Victor Hugo Deuter, his mother Louisa and their 2 children [daughters Dorothea Annie and Emily Louisa] came to Gawler to live in 1906. Their first home was in the then Union Street [now 2nd Street] but later they bought a house in Queen Street [now 4th Street] in which they lived almost all of their lives and where their 3rd child Joseph was born [in 1909?].
Victor Deuter was Councillor for Gawler South Ward from 1935 until 1939, and again from 1944 until 1946.
Victor's son Joseph Deuter was Councillor for Evanston Ward from 1958 until 1961.
