The Gawler Bowling Club was formed 13th June 1907. On 13th June 1907 "the following gentlemen were appointed on a Committee to secure a suitable ground for a green and make all necessary arrangements to have the same prepared and make ready for playing on by Christmas of the same year: The Mayor [Mr Arthur Smith] and Messrs W.H. Cox, A. Sheard, A. May, S.B. Rudall MP, W.D. Paterson, and C.G. Rebbeck. They secured an allotment on the corner of Jacob and Reid Streets and secured a lease of it from Mr. J.F. Martin for 10 years with the right of renewal for another 10 years at 5 pounds a year."
The Gawler Bowling Club green was opened on 12th February 1908 by Mr. S.J. Jacobs (President of the SA Bowling Association.
At a General Meeting held 28th February 1908 the Committee reported that the green was ready to be played upon. The Election of Officers: The President Mr. Arthur Smith, Treasurer Mr. A. Sheard, Secretary Mr. W.A. Cox, Auditor Mr. T. Ey, and that the Committee should comprise of President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Messrs A. May, W.D. Paterson, S.B. Rudall MP, C.G. Rebbeck, and W.R. Lewis. It was also resolved that the Club colours be:- Dark Blue Coat, red and silver fastenings, and red and silver hat band. Please click here to see photos of the Gawler Bowling Club.
