Helen Hennesy has lived in Gawler for nearly 40 years and in that time had been a librarian, a teacher, a local historian and a community engagement officer with the CFS. and spends a lot of time researching and writing about Gawler’s history and representing residents as an elected member of Gawler Council. In her spare time, she is a member of Council’s Gawler Cultural Heritage Committee, a volunteer with the Cultural Heritage Centre, the chairperson of the Gawler Cultural Heritage Foundation and the publicity officer for the Friends of Willaston Cemetery. In 2019 she was awarded the title of South Australian Regional Historian by the History Council of South Australia. Together with Patricia Booth, Helen has written a history of E H Coombe, which was published by Wakefield Press in November 2022.
