William Jacob of Moorooroo, was one of the surveyors who assisted Colonel Light with the planning of Adelaide. Jacob laid out the town of Gawler based on a plan supplied by Light.

William Jacob is buried in the Anglican Cemetery in Lyndoch. Gawler's street names honour the twelve original landholders, Colonel William Light, Boyle Travers Finniss and William Jacob.
