Samuel Johnson is riding around the Australia on a unicycle to raise $1 million for cancer research!

Driven by his immense love for his sister Connie, who is dying of cancer, Samuel Johnson (Rush & Secret Life of Us) has set himself an epic challenge – to ride around the entire country on a unicycle! Samuel left Melbourne on February 15 and arrived in Adelaide March 27th. He then headed off from Elizabeth and will make his way from Elizabeth to Kapunda.

Samuel and his sister Connie both actually lived in Gawler for a while, attached is a class photo, with Sam on the right end of the middle row and the sibling shot from the same school photos. We have Sam sitting on the front fence of their house in Gawler. Connie, Dad and Sam at the Gawler pool, and Connie, Winnie (Connie’s best friend at the time) Sam, and Hilde in the back row at a water park.

Connie remembers that when she was sick she went back to Gawler to visit "we went to the big playground that was built while they were living there, the BMX track and back to our old school." The fifth photo is with Connie on the playground, and she and Sam with Mrs Searl and Mrs Eames our teachers while we went to school there. The trip back would have been in 1990/1991.

ONE MAN, A BIG DREAM & A UNICYCLE

WWW.LOVEYOURSISTER.ORG Samuel Johnson’s sister Connie is dying of Breast Cancer so he’s setting out on an epic challenge. He’s riding around the Australia on a unicycle! It’s all about keeping his promise to Connie: - Raise a million dollars for Breast Cancer research - Raise awareness of the disease that’s killing her - Break the Guinness World Record for the longest distance on a unicycle. It sounds insane, but Samuel’s good to go. He’s been training, he’s ditched the beers, he’s eating... well, he’s eating, and he’s frozen some of his sperm - under advice of doctors - in case the uncomfortable journey has a lasting effect on his closest mates. Too easy? Connie thought so. That’s why she set him some additional tasks along the way in what has to be the world’s most unique bucket-list. Most importantly, Samuel and Connie want to remind every Australian woman about the need to be 'breast aware' in an effort to promote early detection and improve survival rates. Their message is ‘Don't fall into the booby-trap, be breast aware!'

THE CHARITIES

Connie has been meticulous in choosing the Garvan Research Foundation as Love Your Sister's main beneficiary: The Garvan Research Foundation is a world leader in biomedical research, pioneering the outcome of significant breakthroughs in the understanding and treatment of some of the most widespread diseases affecting the community, including cancer. The Garvan Research Foundation will collect all donations on behalf of Love Your Sister, providing full tax deductibility for donations over $2. As the recipient charity, The Garvan Institute will receive 80% of all funds raised, to be used to fund further research into breast cancer. After all, we here at Love Your Sister crave for a cure above all else. www.garvan.org.au/ The remaining 20% of funds raised will be given to the Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group, which provides financial assistance and emotional support to cancer patients and their families. They play a practical role as well, particularly when patients are palliative. Connie is extremely grateful and constantly amazed by the assistance they've provided throughout her struggle. They are a small organisation with a big heart. http://www.actemcsg.org.au/

THE WORLD RECORD

There are plenty of Guinness World Records to break, but it’s hard to find one as tough as this: The longest journey travelled on a unicycle.

So how far is that exactly? Well the current record holder, a bloke by the name of Lars managed 14,686.82km across 48 states of America. Pretty impressive!

We’re not sure why he stopped, but Samuel is determined to push the record past the 15,000km mark. And he’s going to do it across Australia.
