Reverend Walter Henry Jones was (1847-1907) a long standing minister at the Gawler Congregational Church, serving for about 20 years (1882-1901) before relocating to Queensland in about 1902 (he died there in 1907).A stained glass window was unveiled as a memorial to him in the Congregational Church in 1908 (the window was relocated to Tod Street Methodist Church after the union of the churches in the 1970s).

Prior to immigrating from England to Australia, Reverend Jones married Fanny Maria Cooper and had three children, their fourth and final child Eustace Jones, was born in 1888 during their time in Gawler. Whilst in Gawler the family resided at the Congregational Church Manse, which stands at Light Square (contemporary address 19 Cowan Street).
