Briant Thomas Mahoney was born 2nd April 1941; father John Patrick Mahoney and mother Audrey Agnes Mahoney [nee Reed]. He was much loved brother of Evelyn, Donald, Shirley, Christine, and Maurice (decd).

Briant is best described as a tall, quiet, shy man, with long flowing grey hair and beard to match. He walked the streets of Gawler daily, always accompanied by his dog, hence the descriptive phrase, “The man with the dog.”

If Briant felt like talking, he carried an article with him on his walks, perhaps a book or an old relic, enabling him to open a conversation with strangers and friends alike. He was quiet in manner, never argumentative and possessing a profound knowledge over a myriad of subjects.

Loving gardening, Briant enjoyed talking about his prowess in his own garden.

Briant possessed a certain calmness and could often be seen in Pioneer Park sitting on a bench just “watching the world go by.”

Humble in nature but fearless when it came to work, Briant often did odd jobs for Gawler Tradespeople and regularly had to be told to rest or slow down.

Vale Briant Mahoney.
