Greg Morris was elected as Gawler Area Councillor for 2006 to 2010.
I was born on 29 April 1955 in Harden-Murrumburrah NSW. My father, Fred, was an electrician at the time but became an electrical engineer in 1961.My mother, Winifred, was a fashion design teacher. I was the fourth child and grew up in a household with 4 sisters after my younger sister was born in 1960.
The family moved to Condobolin in 1956 and then to Parkes in central NSW in 1963. I graduated from Parkes High in 1972 and was accepted into the RAAF where I spent the next 3 years at RAAF Base Frognall attending RMIT to complete an Associate Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering. I was commissioned in December 1975 as a Pilot Officer and posted to RAAF Base Richmond where I performed in various engineering management roles at No2 Aircraft Depot and was promoted to the rank of Flying Officer.
In June 1977 I married Susan Joy Swyer who I had been courting since late 1974.
In January 1979 I was posted to Headquarters Support Command Melbourne into the role of AEENG6A1 (Aircraft Equipment Engineering) and promotion to Flight Lieutenant. This role was focused on airframe and engine ground support equipment for the RAAF. Our first son,Andrew, was born in March 1981, the second, Brett, in April 1983 and the third, David, in September 1987. In the meantime I had postings as the Resident Engineer at Commonwealth Corporation, Senior Engineer Officer at No 38 Squadron managing Caribou aircraft maintenance with a promotion to Squadron Leader in January 1985, before returning back into AEENG6. In January 1991 I was promoted to Wing Commander and posted to RAAF Base Edinburgh into the role of Commanding Officer Maintenance Squadron Aircraft Research and Development Unit. After 4 years I was posted to Canberra which prompted me to resign my commission and pursue a non-military career.
In July 1995 I became Operations Manager for Gammatron and HD Transformers. Over the next few years this evolved into a part time role which I augmented by working part time for AEM Cores and Aerospace Technical Services. In 2000 I joined Raytheon as the Senior Maintenance Manager back at ARDU where the maintenance had been commercialised. In September 2003 I joined RLM as the Senior Maintenance Manager responsible for maintenance on the Jindalee Operational Radar Network. Since then I have worked as the RLM Engineering Manager, the RLM JORN Senior Design Engineer and after RLM was absorbed by Lockheed Martin, as the Engineering Operations Manager responsible for regulatory compliance.
From 1988 to 1991 I supported the 9th Croydon Scout Group and from 1991 to 2003 the 1st Gawler Scout Group in various roles on Parents' Committees. From 2000 to 2005 I supported the Trinity College in Gawler as a board member. I was elected to the Town of Gawler Council in May 2005 and remained on the Council until December 2011.
Our sons were married October 2010, January 2011 and October 2013 respectively. The first grandson, Owen, was born in April 2013 and the second, Cameron, in December 2013.
On 21st June 2014, I was inducted as President (2014/15) of the Rotary Club of Gawler Light.
