37 Murray Street is a non-heritage shop/office building, occupied in 2026 by Elders Real Estate (which has been that site since at least 1999).
South of that building (approx 35 Murray Street) is the carpark for 33 Murray Street (former Bank SA Building). This used to be the site of a two-storey heritage building, which was subsequently demolished (it was still present in this 1957 photo). In 1886 the building was H J Paternoster's Sewing Machine Depot (see c1886 photo & 1886 Plan).
A local recalled that in the 1950s the heritage building was a boot maker/boot repair business run by a chap whose name sounded like Pilliewege/Pilichiewicz/Pillaellich. [In 1950 Jan Mazurek advertised in the Bunyip (11 Aug 1950) that he a "Refugee of Poland" was a "Boot & Shoemaker & Repairer" at Murray Street next to Ozone Theatre[1] - this may have been an unrelated business as the location description doesn't fit. The veranda post of Mazurek's store was hit by the Gawler ambulance later that year, causing the veranda to come crashing to the footpath which was thankfully unoccupied - the article in the Bunyip (20 Oct 1950) mentions that the premises used to be occupied by J T Hobart and were at that time owned by Mr Fielder of Willaston.[2] In 1953 Mazurek was advertising his business to be at 58 Murray Street[3] - that may a different Murray Street address to his 1950 shop and/or street numbering may have changed since that time.][Note: 65 Murray Street is a similar narrow, two-storey heritage building (but only has single upstairs window) - it is right next to the former Ozone Theatre & was the building that had been occupied by Hobart - perhaps the recalled boot maker was at that address?]
