John Tullock was Councillor for North Ward in 1913 - 1916.

Born in Beaufort Victoria ( also known as Fiery Creek Diggings ) – he married Ada Margaret ( nee Baldock ) in 1886.

Four children:-

Leslie John Thomas Tulloch ( born 1887, Ballarat, Victoria ) Pauline Tulloch ( born 1890, Ballarat, Victoria ) Jean Patterson Tulloch ( born 1893, Ballarat, Victoria ) John Angus Tulloch ( born 6 July 1899, Gawler, South Australia )

Hence the connection to Gawler by 1899 – It seems he was here with his family some time in 1894.

John Kennedy Tulloch is listed in local ( Sands and McDougall ) directories as a fitter living in Water Street, Gawler South ( from 1897 to 1900 ); as a Blacksmith living in a cottage in Queen Street, Church Hill ( 1902 until 1918 )

John Kennedy Tulloch first appears in the public records, associated with Gawler in 1894 when he was appointed a director of the Gawler Caledonian Society. In 1899 and 1908 he is also mentioned as secretary of that society. Between 1904 and 1907 a number of public notices appear, signed by him : as Secretary of Athenian Lodge No 16, Independent Order of Foresters ( American Order ); as President of the Barossa Electorate Committee of the United Labour Party; and as Chairman of the Phoenix Foundry Accident Fund.

John K Tulloch is also listed as a Trustee, and as Vestry Chairman, of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, and as a Town Councillor for Gawler North Ward from 1913 to 1916.

John Tulloch appears to have been a conscientious public-spirited man, highly active in social and benevolent movements.

His daughter Jean Patterson Tulloch was awarded the Dawes Medal as dux ( girl ) of Gawler Public School in 1908. In 2012 when a new road was being constructed at the southern end of Gawler Racecourse (from Adelaide Road to Barnet Road, giving better access to Gawler High School ), the name Tulloch Road was chosen –

‘After Miss J. P. Tulloch, 1908 Gawler Primary School Dr Dawes Medalist; as dux of girls’
