I was born in Gawler in 1943 and went to the Elsie Ey kindergarten 1947 and 1948, Gawler Primary from 1949 until the end of 1952, and the Presbyterian Sunday School at the top end of Murray St. We lived in a ground-floor flat at Martindale, 1 Duffield St. Neighbours at Martindale included Lloyd and Joan Chapman (Lloyd was at Eudunda Farmers for many years) and John and Meg Carey (whose son Peter was a footballer with Glenelg), and upstairs the Craigs and the Jacobs. Ruby Barnet lived at Pine Lodge, 5 Duffield St.
The family moved to Adelaide in December 1952. My father Archie Fischer had been a postman and behind the counter at Gawler Post Office and Gawler Rail PO from 1940 to 1948.
