Pastor at the Zion Lutheran Church, Gawler, 1916 – 1933

Pastor Wiebusch was called from the Lutheran Church at Koonibba to serve the Zion Lutheran Church at Gawler, as well as the Lutheran Churches at Tanunda, Kapunda and Allen’s Creek; a Parish of four congregations.

At Gawler, Pastor Wiebusch established the Ladies Guild, the Luther League [Youth Fellowship] and Sunday School (the Saturday School having closed). The Zion congregation built across the road from the “Little Glory Church” a much larger church which was dedicated on 9 th April 1922. There were 270 members at that time.

A Lutheran School was opened in the “Little Glory Church” building in 1928 with 45 children. Pastor Wiebusch died in 1933 having tragically drowned at Port Noarlunga. A memorial plaque is fixed on the interior wall of the Zion Church building.
