Tile Factory, Bright Street

Trading as Gawler Tiles, the factory opened in September 1949. They produced about 1800 to 2000 roof tiles a day. The operation employed five men and three young lads. Their target was 10,000 tiles per week and then expanding to 60,000. The business was called “Gawler Tiles”, as it was felt that people knew the town of Gawler, but knew little of Willaston. It is believed that the factory closed in the early 1950s.
