Memories of a Young Farmer
Born in Freeling 2/2/28 and was the only Child to Edwin Hugo Zerk and Meta Alwinne Zerk.
I lived my first few years with my parents and half-brother Ronny Arnold, in a home on Section 530, Nuriootpa in a house with two rooms of stone construction with two galvanised iron room attached – my parent's bedroom, lounge, kitchen and us boys room that had a cellar under it with and access door also in the room.
There were 8 or 10 large sugar gum trees and a big pine tree in front of the house as well as a well for water that used a cable and bucket. There was also a rainwater tank about a hundred feet from the house. All water for drinking and washing up had to be carried in a bucket into the house and of course, there was an outside toilet.
