E.H.Coombe "History of Gawler" [E.H.C.] p23 says that the St.Georges School opened in 1850 and P. Butler was appointed a Trustee.

[E.H.C.] p92 "...subscriptions donated to the Institute at the time of establishment in 1857....P. Butler...5 pounds"

[E.H.C.] p265 "Philip Butler J.P., was one of the pioneers of the State and a prominent pastoralist in this district. He owned a large area in the Mallala district, and was also the proprietor of Yattalunga, near Gawler....Mr.Philip Butler was an official of St. George's Church and day school."
