Graham Hartley Miller, known as Snowy or Snow, was born on 2 Oct 1921 in Gawler South, to parents Arthur Henry Miller and nee Myrtle Maud Hards [see Hards Family]. He was a fourth generation Gawler butcher - his father, uncle, grandfather Hartley Burfield Miller and great grandfather William Miller all having been butcher's in the Gawler area.
In 1943, Graham was residing with his parents in the family home at 10 Twentysecond Street, Gawler South (at that time the address was know as 6 Twentysecond street, the street was later renumbered). There is a photo of the butcher's cart in front of the house.
Graham's butcher's shop was at 1 Main Street, Willaston. He purchased the shop in 1946, it was leased to Andrew Cameron and Deanne Kay Cameron from 1 Dec 1992 for 6 years.[1] Then after Graham's death in 1996, it was transferred to his executor Peter Robin Newman.[1] It is suggested the store was leased to Rodney Harvey, butcher, c1990 and there is a photo of the store with Rodney Harvey's signage.
Graham's slaughterhouse complex was located on the eastern side of Mount Terrace but it has since been demolished for housing (c.1990s). Local Brian Thom recalled that in the 1950s and 1960s, ""Snowy" Miller was a popular local butcher and one's orders for meat and smallgoods would be home-delivered by "Snowy"".
Graham Hartley Miller died on 25 Aug 1996, aged 74. He is buried at Willaston Cemetery (plot 48 M 4), alongside his parents (plot 47 M 4) and his memorial stone names his four children.
To the east of Mount Terrace, one of the streets in the more recently developed area is named "Snowy Court".
