According to researcher Bev Burke, on Lot Pt 24, Julian Tce., the E&WS Department built the office on the corner of Julian Terrace South and Murray Street South in 1881/2. It housed the pumping plant and well for Gawler's first water supply system. The office and residence for the Superintendent was built 1882.3. The bore was closed in 1901 with the opening of the Barossa Scheme. It was reopened in 1944.
